Object-oriented languages in particular are useful in introductory textbooks and are certainly appropriate at this time. Having an object-oriented language as the core programming language supports many courses at the higher level (e.g., software engineering, user interfaces, databases). The question is, then, which object-oriented language?
Our decision to use Java was based on a number of factors. First, we recognized Java as a pure object-oriented language, as opposed to C++, which is a hybrid, and thus does not allow the programmer to fall back into procedural habits. Further, it has a relatively clear and common syntax that can be understood without having to learn a large class hierarchy. Finally, Java has compilers available on a great many platforms that are inexpensive, not overly resource hungry, and the code is platform-independent. All of these things make Java ideal for a first university course.

Blogging for dollars might sound like the latest game show or some new drinking game, but it's the latest craze to hit the Internet. Bloggers began blogging for a number of reasons, but as the blog movement has increased in popularity, they have found ways to monetize their blogs and are seeing their commitment pay off.

Google AdSense allows webmasters to dynamically serve content-relevant advertisements in blogs. Creating Cool Web Sites with HTML is a broad introduction to authoring web pages, aimed at non-technical users.
Taylor assumes throughout that the user is working with a basic text editor and editing HTML directly. The rationale for this is nowhere argued, but I support it whole-heartedly — even people who end up using Dreamweaver or some other fancy package will benefit from learning how things work at a lower level.
No attempt is made to be systematic; instead, the presentation attempts to follow a natural progression for a beginner. Part I begins with the basic idea of a web page, explaning URLs and HTML. It works through building a simple page, progressively introducing text styling, basic CSS, lists, links, and graphics and other media. This is amply illustrated with screenshots.
The "advanced" topics covered in part II include frames and tables, forms and basic CGI, javascript, more CSS, and weblogs, with server side includes and basic password authentication touched on. Part III covers some broader issues: usability, making search-engine-friendly pages, and page and style validation.
There are some obvious omissions. The mechanics of obtaining hosting and uploading pages aren't covered at all. And despite the "sites" in the title — upgrading the "pages" of Taylor's 1995 book — there's almost nothing on site design or navigation, only some brief advice on using subdirectories sensibly. XHTML is also touched on too slightly to warrant its inclusion in the title.
There are also some things I'd have done differently. Given that CSS is introduced almost immediately afterwards, I wouldn't have bothered explaining the deprecated FONT tag at all. I would also have omitted the (very package dependent) treatment of web logs, and might have skipped frames entirely.
But Creating Cool Web Sites isn't aimed at people like me. Technical users approaching HTML for the first time might be better off with a book like O'Reilly's Web Design, with more detail and fewer screenshots. For many of the users I support, however, Creating Cool Web Sites hits a sweet spot. It will be a useful addition to my "books for loan" shelf.

One of the easiest and most lucrative ways to generate a secondary income, which also happens to be passive, is via Google’s Adsense program.
I’m sure you’ve read the claims of a few individuals generating five figure monthly incomes from Adsense. For many of you, I’m sure you are wondering why you aren’t making this same income yourself.
Well, wonder no more. If you follow my simple six step system, you will be well on your way to healthy Adsense profits within three months.
Are you ready? It’s now time to pay attention.
Step 1 – Preparation
The key to making money with Adsense is all about numbers. BIG numbers!Sure, there are a few people making serious money with less than ten sites, but these are the exception.Your goal will be twenty-four sites in three months. That’s just TWO sites per week!In order to accomplish this, I recommend one of the many available page generation tools available today.
Step 2 – Determine Your Markets.
In order to maximize Adsense income with only twenty-four sites, you must know which markets are paying well.To break this down even further, you need to know which keywords within those markets are paying the most.
Step 3 – Register you domains.
Once you’ve identified and chosen your markets, you must register domains appropriate to those markets. For example, if your market is ‘Cabbage Patch Dolls’, a domain such as http://www.cabbage-patch-doll.com/ would be appropriate
Step 4 – Create your site
Using your favorite page generation software and keyword list, it’s time to develop your site. There are several key points to bear in mind when you develop these specifically for Adsense.
1. Format – Always use the large 336x280 large
rectangle.2. Border – Match the same color as your background.3. Background color - Border – Match the same color as your
background.4. Link = "0000CC"5. Color_url = "999999"6. Color_text = "333333"7. Position – Far left or center and just above the page fold

Step 5 – Verify and track your site
Visit your site and make sure all links work and that the sites appear to your satisfaction. You should also check out the ads Google is displaying. Are they targeted to your primary high paying keyword? If not, recreate your site using your high paying keyword in a higher density throughout your site.
Make sure you track your Adsense format, position, and traffic with a tracking system specifically designed for Adsense. Once you know your stats, you can adjust for maximum clickthroughs and higher revenues.
Step 6 – Get your site listed in the search engines.
This is simple… no tricks involved. Simply rent links to your site.
A PR7 or PR8 link will do the job.While I’ve simplified the process here, you are now armed with enough information and resources to make some serious money with Adsense.

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.
GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.
Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail e-mail account, which includes storage space of 4000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Google Mail account and retrieve them again. When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer. You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag'n'drop like you're used to with the normal Explorer folders.
Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.
Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.
